Course Aim:
To provide the participant with the knowledge and skills to understand fire behaviour and make educated decisions on safety and survival.
Target Group:
Those people that are required to drive through or work in possible Wildfire areas in the performance of their normal work duties during the summer period.
Qualifications Achieved:
This course meets the requirements of the OH&S Act 2004 Section 21 'To provide such information, instruction, training and supervision to employees as are necessary to enable the employees to perform their work in a manner that is safe and without risks to health.'
Course Subjects:
- Understand the affects of weather on fire behaviour
- Describe the type and arrangement of bush, grasses and undergrowth fuels that make safety and survival possible
- Describe the mitigating factors that affect fire behaviour
- Be able to determine what is a safe refuge area
- Be able to make an educated decision to continue the journey or return to safer location
